The belated and well overdue 1st warm up pre season game for AFFC vs Floreat Athena Socials finally happened on Sunday, officially named the Rats Clacker Cup. A dismal effort by the reigning 4th division premiers winning the game 4-3 with more comedic moments than a Novatsis Bros spat.
The lads from Mega needed 4 woman's players to make up their team subs; quite comical considering there was a shit load of players at training, luckily Glen & Mike" Mike"Karalis finally made their season debuts.. Yes, we know this is socials and shit but this was FUCKING ridiculous. Guys cramping up more than a maternity ward in the first 10min was an embarrassing indictment on the fitness levels at AFFC. We're kidding ourselves if we think we are going to win easily this season. It was a fucking shambles of an effort and we were lucky we had enough players who could trap, pass and shoot a ball because our fitness was DISGRACEFUL.
Luke"Captain America"Tsakisiris started the day's proceedings with a coolly placed goal but unfortunately it didn't count because the non existent linesman called it offside. Luke lost the plot and made both teams have an official linesman, considering we didn't have enough players to wipe our arses we got some girl to do it. The first half was a game a few chances. D'mato scored past a shite one legged Ang in goals to start the days proceedings. A while later BJ won a penalty from some over enthusiast marking and Gordon converted. 1-1 at halftime.
When Britannia oval water tastes like gold you know you're fucked, halftime couldn't of come sooner. Many players were adamant the half went for 60mins. We lost Mike"Mike"Karalis for the 2nd half to family commitments, so we were a player down and had to rely on the woman's players even more. Lots of hard running by the Brazilian connection in Flav and Daniel (not Saldaris) led to a series of good play which culminated in Glen scoring 2-1 up. After some comical passing by the AFFC boys, goalkeeper Ang and Gordon were casually talking on the 18 yard box when D'mato blindsided Ang and won the ball to make it 2-2. Jim Pati would've been proud of that howler.
Some hard work and fine finishing by Brazilian Daniel led to another goal for AFFC 3-2 up. A series of missed opportunities for both teams showed on the faces of the players as things started to become heated. 2nd half ref Parry"pazza gillett" lack of whistle blowing led to a number of kicking and mistimed tackles rom both sides which later led to a Mexican stand off between Santini and Luke. Joe"6 weeks" Polak made a late entry into the game with about 30min to go. Some of the girls objected to Joe playing and left our team leaving us with no subs. A fine goal by Mitso curling the ball over the keeper from a sharp angle had the game at a 3-3 score with about 10min to go. Some last gasp defending by both teams looked enough for a draw when a Cono long ball to Joe Polat who delivered a sublime flick on to Glen, endding with a goal giving the AFFC a well deserved 4-3 lead with a couple of minutes to go. The final whistle couldn't of come sooner for the AFFC chargers as most were phat out of shape.
Afterwards some snags and beer was a fine reminder why we play play socials and was enjoyed by those who remained back. Cheers for that Luke and Con.
